Scientists create the most detailed map of Uranus’s mysterious aurora

For the first time, scientists have imaged the entire Earth of Tenno with the infrared portion of the light spectrum, hoping to shed light on the planet’s mysterious aurora and strange magnetic fields.

The UK-led team did so last week during a three-day publicly livestreamed campaign for worldwide viewing. Scientists based at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom used NASA’s Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) in Hawaii to investigate the strange orbiting ice giant planet.
