Everglades, Florida — Everglades is a small town, but it has a big title.
“Sebring is known as the birthplace of endurance racing in the United States, and the first race was held in 1952,” said Elizabeth Wally, marketing coordinator at Sebring International Raceway.
Sebring International Raceway is the longest running racing facility.
“Sports car racing, as we know it today, was founded here in Sebring, Florida,” Wally said.
We will celebrate the 70th anniversary in 2022, which is full of history.
“The Sebring International Raceway was originally an Air Force training base for B17 pilots from 1941 to 1947,” Wally said.
Some of the trucks are still using their original concrete. That’s what makes racing in Sebring so unique.
“Sebring has a lot of personality, to say the least, so we are well known for being very bumpy, very difficult not only for cars but also for drivers. So when you look at the drivers, most people spend much more time at the 24 Hours than the 12 Hours of Sebring, “said Worley.
The 12 Hours of Sebring is the biggest event of the year and a great economic impetus.
“This event really helps to map Sebring. You can go abroad, go to France, go to the Netherlands, go to different parts of the world and mention Sebring. With this facility Thanks to this race, they know what Sebring is, “Wally said.
But the raceway is more than just an event. People use this truck from private car clubs to manufacturer testing.
“Basically, one of the biggest goals of racing, especially sports car racing, is to get the technology,” says Worley.
Raceways have a huge impact on the cars we drive every day and how they are developed. Certain car companies come to the truck and push their cars to the limit to see what breaks.
“And they take it back to the manufacturer and help make the car they buy at the dealership better,” Wally said.
The raceway has had a huge impact on the community.
