Secretary of State Antony Blinken positive for Covid

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken tested positive for Covid-19.

60-year-old Blinken is the second-highest member of the Biden Cabinet and coronavirus..

Vice President Kamala Harris was diagnosed with the disease at the end of last month and returned to work after being tested at the White House on Wednesday.

Blinken, who was negative on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, tested positive in the afternoon with a PCR test.

The Secretary of State has been fully vaccinated against the virus and has been enhanced, but has experienced only mild symptoms, the ministry said in a statement.

Blinken will be quarantined at home and maintain a virtual work schedule, spokesman Ned Price said. “He is looking forward to returning to the department, resuming his duties and traveling as soon as possible,” he added.

Blinken was scheduled to give a long-awaited speech on China’s policy on Thursday.

Price reveals that the secretary has not met President Biden in person for several days, and the president is not considered close contact.

In a regular news briefing at the White House, spokesman Jen Psaki explained that “close contact” as defined by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is within 15 minutes and 6 feet.

However, Blinken has had a busy schedule with the State Department so far this week and has been involved with many foreign officials.

He met with Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde and met with her at the State Department on Wednesday.

Blinken also met with Takeo Akiba, Japan’s National Security Adviser the day before.
