Atlanta (CBS46)-State officials have announced the expansion of a rental assistance program for families whose finances have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a press release, the state’s COVID-19 rental assistance program eligibility has been expanded to include rental households receiving monthly federal grants, including: Housing selection voucher.. Only the tenant portion of the rent is eligible for a refund and the guidelines and restrictions of the existing program apply.

“This change will give more Georgians significant recovery assistance,” said DCA Commissioner Christopher Nan. “All lessors who have experienced financial difficulties due to the coronavirus pandemic are advised to visit the online Georgia Rental Assistance Portal to look for rental and utility relief options.”

The program is made possible by the US Treasury Department’s Emergency Rental Assistance Fund of $ 552 million and is available to anyone who meets the following criteria:

  1. Eligible for unemployment, or experienced a decrease in household income, incurred a large amount of money, or experienced other financial difficulties directly or indirectly due to COVID-19,
  2. Shows the risk of experiencing homelessness and housing instability,
  3. Household income is less than 80% of Area Median Income (AMI), and the priorities are as follows: 1) Households with less than 50% of AMIs, or 2) Households with one or more individuals who have been unemployed for 90 days or more.
