Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) – On Friday, October 22, the Evergreen Recreation Center hosted a community forum.
The purpose of this event was to welcome immigrants to Kansas.
Yeni Telles, who works for the Himawari Community Action Organization, says such an event is essential to continue to build strong relationships with immigrants and the minority community here in Wichita.
This week, city leaders were able to hear stories, ideas, and problems that the immigrant community often faces when migrating to the United States. Mayor Brandon Whipple and city council member Lacy Cruz joined the forum to show their support for the community. With the increasing number of immigrants in Kansas and Wichita, the current goal is to ensure that the city has sufficient resources and support to provide these families.
“As we grow up, there are definitely things we can tackle. This is a great conversation we want. This was the first, but definitely we like these. I want more things, “said Teres.
Teres hopes to schedule more of these events in the coming months and aims to see more communities in these forums.
