Sedro-Woolly Republican Senator Keith Wagoner said Tuesday that he would challenge Secretary of State Steve Hobbes, who was newly appointed in next year’s elections.

“I don’t feel like I’m running for anyone. I’m running for the office,” Wagoner told the Daily Herald. “I think we can do something good when we get there.”

Hobbes, a Democrat of Lake Stevens Appointed by Governor Jay Inslee to replace Kim Wyman, A Republican who resigned to get a job in the Biden administration. Hobbs, who has been a state senator since 2007, Work started on November 22nd.

The appointment of Hobbs will continue until next year’s general election. He said he would run for a full four-year term. He is the first Democrat in his work since 1965.

Wagoner, a retired U.S. Navy commander, was the mayor of Sedro-Woolley before joining the Legislature. He also served in the city council for five years.

According to his official biography, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1984 with a degree in Physical Oceanography. He also holds a Master’s degree in Global Leadership from the University of San Diego.

Wagoner retired in 2007, 23 years later, as a naval officer operating helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. He and his wife have three children.
