Georgia Senators John Osov and Raphael Warnock, and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, on Thursday, June 10, on the roads and infrastructure needed to establish a new inland port in Hall County, Georgia. Announced a $ 2 million grant for improvement. Expansion of business through the port of Savannah.

The planned northeastern Georgia inland port provides a direct link to the port of Savannah via Norfolk Southern.

The new federal funding from the US Department of Commerce’s Department of Economic Development (EDA) is expected to create nearly 700 jobs and generate $ 185 million in private investment.

“As promised, we are providing resources to create jobs in Georgia by upgrading our infrastructure and expanding Georgia’s ports,” said Osov. “Thanks to Secretary of Commerce Lymond and President Biden for their continued support for our efforts to improve Georgia’s infrastructure, create jobs and invest in Georgia’s ports.”

“When we invest in infrastructure, we help strengthen the state’s economy, create local jobs, and benefit Georgia workers and families. These funds help Hall County. Proud to be sent to, we will continue to fight for additional federal investment that will help strengthen our transportation infrastructure and manufacturing capacity in northeastern Georgia, “Warnock said.

“President Biden is committed to helping communities grow important industries and improve local economies across the country,” said US Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Lymond. “This EDA investment in Hall County will improve the inland ports of the Georgia Port Authority, create new economic opportunities and jobs for locals, while facilitating the expansion of the region’s R & D sector.”

Glyph Lynch, Executive Director of the Georgia Port Authority, said: “Improvement of adjacent roads will further increase the opportunities for planned inland port security, economic development and job creation.”

Osov, an avid supporter of the Savannah Port and Georgia’s regional economy, has worked with both public and private sector officials to secure funds for the port throughout his time in the US Senate. ..

Osov has secured a promise from Secretary of Transportation Pete Butigeg and Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget Shalanda Young to fund the completion of the Savannah Port Deepening Project.

Last month, Osov visited the port expansion and deepening project and promised again to fight to secure the funds needed to complete the project.

Ossoff also recently secured a commitment from top executives of the largest US bank to work to increase private investment in infrastructure, transportation and clean energy, including projects to deepen the port of Savannah.

Warnock also visited the port this month and vowed to fight to pass the infrastructure package that supports the port’s growth.
