Policies affect only staff and teachers, not students. Starting next month, with a few exceptions, you will need to receive at least your first COVID vaccination to maintain employment.
Several parents and teachers from the Shaker Heights School District spoke at the board.
“I’m asking for the best interests of the school … I beg all of you to vaccinate staff,” one parent told board members.
“There is a war over freedom, medical freedom … people all over the country and around the world are at risk of losing their jobs to get injections,” said a junior high school teacher who addressed the board.
Scott Stevens, a spokesman for Shaker Heights School District, said:
Stevens tells FOX8 that people with “medical and religious objections” are exempt.
“Our teachers’union and other union leaders, our other collective bargaining units were planning with us. When we drafted this policy, they were us. I was at the table with him, “said Stevens.
Some officials oppose the policy, but school officials say the area already has high vaccination coverage.
“We already have a very high vaccination rate among our staff, so we don’t anticipate any problems … more than 80% of our staff and more than 90% of our teachers,” Stevens said.
