Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawaii returns with interactive experience – Honolulu, Hawaii

Honolulu, Hawaii 2022-05-27 06:35:22 –

Honolulu (KHON2) – What started in 1999 has become an annual tradition here in Hawaii. We are talking about the Hawaiian ritual in which the true lotus floats.

But since the pandemic, things have been forced to change, virtualized, and become a face-to-face experience.

And this year, the situation will not change.

To find out more, KHON2 met with lighting artist Hideaki Tsutsui, who can talk more about this.

KHON2 asked Mr. Tsutsui to share his experience of this year’s “Space to Heal”.

“For the past two years, we have been separated from the pandemic and many have lost their loved ones,” says Tsutsui. “So we wanted to provide the experience and space for people to get together and share stories about those who have passed by.”

People who came last year have a big structure in the middle and can’t see it, so this year there are some differences.

Next, KHON2 asked what is different this year from last year.

“Last year there were so many pandemics that I wanted to create a ceremony, but I managed to control it,” Tsutsui said. “But this year we wanted to create an environment where we could be together, so there are four places on these bridges and people can experience the lanterns floating together.”

As an artist who put all this together, KHON2 asked Tsutsui about the symbolism behind the bridge and all these different things he created.

“Yes. The bridge symbolizes the journey of humanity, and in our lives we all end up in the same place,” Tsutsui said. “And, of course, the circle is the circle of life. But last year, I watched a video of family and community members making lei together. Again, Hawaii’s lei is love, friendship, honor, And it symbolizes goodbye. “

There are many different ways people can participate in this, and by booking only on their website.

But what are the other ways people can get involved?

“People can go to lanternfloatinghawaii.com for booking,” Tsutsui said.

“It will also be broadcast on the same website and will have a live stream. It will also be broadcast on KHON at 6:30 pm on Memorial Day.”

Shinnyo-en Floating Hawaii: The Space to Heal Interactive Experience will begin on Friday, May 27th and will continue from 6:30 pm to 9pm on June 5th.
