Wichita, K. (KSNW) -Thousands of Shocker fans packed the Charles Koch Arena on Tuesday to celebrate a special sneak peak for the next basketball season.
“This is really exciting at this point,” said Philip May, a former professor at Washington State University.
May says he has been in Shocker Madness for 40 years.
“In the old days, it wasn’t really as organized as it is now,” May said.
Due to the pandemic, last season’s Shocker Madness was put on hold.
Keitha Adams, director of women’s basketball at Wichita State University, said:
Adams says he’s excited to see the packed Koch Arena this season.
“When you think of basketball when you say’Shocker’s Madness’, you think of passion. Shocker fans are very passionate and Koch Arena is very noisy. In our arena, that’s exactly what it is. There is such a wonderful energy, “said Adams.
One fan says he has been supporting the Shockers since 1967.
“I know women have really won a lot of new players this year. So do men. I’m really looking forward to women. I have a women’s season ticket so I’m looking forward to it. “We do,” said Vernon Armor.
Armor says that returning to the roundhouse with his wife gives him peace of mind after a year of COVID-19 cancellations.
“I can go out and do things. This is one of the things we wanted to go out,” Armor said.
