According to the story Lord Shiva considered Nandi as his teacher, tutor or mentor. This is the reason why he is not housed as a gatekeeper in front of the temple of Shree Kapaleshwar Mahadev.

History associated with Shree Kapaleshwar Mahadev Mandir

The temple is located at a jump away from the iconic Ramkund. It is said that Lord Shiva had mistakenly killed a cow. He then went to his teacher, Nandi to ask for help. Nandi then suggested him to go and take a bath in Ramkund. Adhering to his instruction Lord Shiva went and took a dip in the holy waters of Ramkund and meditated there for some time. As a result of which his sins were washed off and he became as pious as ever. It is also said that the Shree Kapaleshwar Mahadev Mandir is located at the very same position where Lord Shiva had meditated.

Shree Kapaleshwar Mahadev Mandir is open on all days of the week. Entry is not ticketed here. Public transport is easily available in here. The temple is barely two kilometers away from the main bus stand and auto as well as cab service is easily available here too. The wonderful location of this place has made it easily accessible to the general public living in any part of the city of Nasik. Hotels are easily available in Nasik. One can choose as per one’s need and book rooms both online and offline. The nearest railway station from here is Nasik Road Railway Station at a distance of 10 km from here. Shree Kapaleshwar Mahadev Mandir is very crowded during the festival of Shivratri. Devotees from different places come to visit this very temples. Mondays are busy too.
