Columbia, Missouri (AP) —The Task Force recommends placing explanatory signs near the controversial statue of Thomas Jefferson on the University of Missouri campus. Note that the sign not only described Jefferson’s achievements, but also upheld the policies that led to his possession of slaves and the exclusion of indigenous peoples from their lands. Missouri System President Mun Choi appointed a task force after black organizations and students called for the removal of the statue during a racially unfair protest last summer. University officials refused to remove the sign. The Task Force recommendations were sent to the Curator Committee for review.
