Biles this weekBoth team finals and individual women Focus on her at the Tokyo Olympics ..Team USA won a silver medal at a team event, and Biles’ teammates I personally won a gold medal — the fifth American woman in a row to do so.
Open an Instagram story overnight, Biles,, Answered a question from fans about what gymnasts call “twisty”. This is a terrifying condition of dissociation in which athletes fail to complete their skills successfully and can lead to serious injuries.
“I can’t even understand the twist. I can’t really understand how to twist it,” Biles wrote on Instagram, trying to explain how the twist feels. “The strangest and strangest things, and emotions.”
Biles said during this week’s training she hadn’t landed any moves intended to be done in competition. She said she was affected by all the devices, “it’s terrible … really bad.”
Biles added that she had previously experienced a twist and “they aren’t fun to deal with.” She said they started happening after the qualifying round earlier this week.
“I’m honestly petrifying that my mind and body are out of sync when I try to develop my skills,” she explained. “10/10 is not recommended.”
“You can’t literally tell from bottom to top. It’s the crazyest feeling I’ve ever had. I can’t control your body by an inch,” she continued. “More scary is that I don’t know where I am in the air, so I don’t know how to land, or what I’m landing on. Put my head / hands / feet back …”
Biles also continued to defend her decision to withdraw from the competition for her own safety.
“I didn’t have any bad performances and I quit. I did a lot of bad performances throughout my career and ended the competition,” she said. “Not only did I lose my safety, but my team’s medals were also at risk.”
“I don’t think you understand how dangerous this is in terms of hardware / competition,” she added. “I don’t even have to explain why I put my health first. Physical health is mental health.”
Biles participated in all six women’s gymnastics finals, including teams, individual all-rounders, vaults, uneven bars, balance beams, and floors. It’s not clear if she will compete next week.
“Usually for me, I’ve usually had them for more than two weeks before,” she said of the timeline. “Honestly, there is no tell / time frame. It literally has to be taken in turn every day.”
USA Gymnastics said Wednesday that Biles would be evaluated daily to determine if it would be safe to take part in next week’s finals.
