Las Vegas (KLAS) — Due to the nationwide surge in cases of COVID-19, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued new warnings. So, with a more contagious virus, how can you try to boost your immunity?
According to the CDC, vaccinated Americans can infect delta mutants as easily as unvaccinated Americans. He adds that the variant is more contagious than the common cold.
The data also show that the vaccine works. 97% of people hospitalized for the virus are not vaccinated.
We have been hearing the same message from health authorities for some time. This includes encouraging everyone to vaccinate and wear masks. However, to protect yourself from COVID, there are additional steps you can take, such as exercising and taking supplements.
“I’m doing what I can to be proactive, not reactive,” said Las Vegan Patrick Casale. “I don’t want to get sick.”
He was previously infected with the coronavirus and lost his mother to the disease last year. Therefore, as Delta Variant infections increase, he is taking simple steps to keep COVIDs away.
The main action that Casale is taking is to go to the gym more often.
“I’m walking. I’m either biking or elliptical. I swim,” he said.
And Casale is getting a lot of vitamins and supplements.
“Daily Vitamin C. I use zinc,” Casale told 8NewsNow. “I’m taking Vitamin E and Vitamin D. I’m really sure there’s everything I can do to prevent getting sick.”
Alexandria Lightning, a nurse practitioner who owns Lightning Medical, agrees that supplements are a good idea.
“Something like zinc is actually antiviral,” she explained. “So they can actually cut short viral replications and help reduce the viral load of COVID.”
Lightning adds that everyday activities also help boost our immunity.
“We lose weight, observe what we eat, and reduce sugar and food in our diet,” she said.
Lightning emphasizes the importance of combining all these tools. But are they effective in the delta variant of the mix?
“100%,” Lightning asserted. “They are still very useful.”
Casale says he is aware of the difference.
“It works,” said Casale. “I haven’t felt so good for a long time.”
Experts also say that taking melatonin supplements just before bedtime can regulate the immune system, which may help prevent COVID-19.
