Virginia Beach (Wavy) — A few months at sea, about 300 sailors in the USS Carter Hall have returned to Virginia Beach’s joint expeditionary base, Little Creek’s homeport.
Usually, after deployment, many plan a trip back to themselves as the holidays approach.
But for a sailor or marine, soldier, coast guard or airman, a “holiday home”
It could be another day here at the barracks at Hampton Roads. Many do not travel
COVID-19 by pandemic.
It may sound a bit depressing to homesick service members, but not everything is lost.
“The need for USO is to bring a small“ house ”to service members,” says Kenny Miller.
United Service Organizations (USO) Operations and Program Manager.
Miller says USO will bring them a holiday party.
“We plan to bring USO box trucks to various facilities here on the South Side.
Not just on the peninsula. “
The box truck and crew roll into several area bases full of fun outdoor activities.
“Games like cornholes and jams create a kind of competitive atmosphere, and we’re going to get prizes,” says Miller. “We prepare music, food and drinks and bring holiday cheers to every single service member living in the barracks.”
Miller says each service member will also receive a goody bag.And USO needs the general public
“Powdered drink mix, hot cocoa mix, chewing gum,
Beef jerky, holiday hand sanitizer, holiday candies, pine tree scented fragrances, etc.
A little fun and holiday-oriented. “
According to Miller, USO’s Rotation Holiday Tour will be held at various locations for two weeks starting Friday, December 3rd.
It’s a lot of work, but I told the service members, “I’m grateful,
A little smile and joy to our service members when we can’t always be with our family. ”
