Atlanta (CBS46) —Gwinnett police have finally identified an unidentified body found in a forest near Stone Mountain in 1982.
A female skull was found off the coast of Deshong Drive. At that time, it was believed that the ruins were there for 6 to 10 years.
Recently, a woman named Janis Adams submitted her DNA to a law enforcement database.
Adams spent his life wondering what happened to his mother, who disappeared in the early 1970s. She did not know if her mother had abandoned her as an infant or was killed.
Her father, uncle, and brother didn’t even know about the missing woman.
March 2021, Det. Dorminy of the Gwinnett Homicide Unit shipped the skull to Othram Labs to generate a DNA profile.
The profile was then matched against Adams, who identified the mother as Marlene Standridge.
On August 25, Adams met with a police officer at the police headquarters and talked to Det. Dorminy. At that time, I got a sample from Adams.
In September, Othram Labs confirmed DNA matching.
