Denver (AP) — In many parts of Colorado and the western and midwestern United States, wildfire smoke remains in most of the country, so an air quality warning was posted on Sunday.
Alerts occurred in the Rocky Mountains of the northern United States, including parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Washington, and Idaho.
Further east, smoke from burning fires in Canada drifted hundreds of miles, causing pollution alerts in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa.
Wildfires emit large amounts of fine smoke particles, which researchers say are harmful when inhaled and can have immediate and long-term health consequences.
Children, the elderly, and people with underlying health conditions are at particular risk.
