Atlanta (CBS46)- The CT Vivian Leadership Institute’s first CTVLI Humanitarian Award will be presented to social activist Bryan Stevenson on Friday.
The award honors the legacy of Dr. CT Vivian, a human rights defender who has demonstrated great power in pursuing social progress in the United States and around the world.
CTVLI created this award to recognize Dr. Vivian’s actions that have contributed significantly to the improvement and continued improvement of human condition and public interest, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or social status. Did.
The organization will host a virtual event on Friday to celebrate Bryan Stevenson’s achievements. Stevenson is expected to discuss his role as Founder / Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative, an organization focused on protecting the basic human rights of the most vulnerable people in American society. Stevenson also wrote the best-selling book, Just Mercy, which was the basis for the movie of the same name.
After his death, CTVLI also honors baseball legend and philanthropist Hank Aaron and his wife, Billy Sver Aaron, for their contributions and long-standing support to CTVLI.
US Senator Raphael Warnock, the first African-American to represent Georgia in the Senate, and Georgia Governor’s best-selling authors, activists, political leaders, and 2018 Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams will also appear. Ambassador Andrew Young and his wife are Honorary Chairs.
