Some Clovis Unified parents pushing for face masks to be optional – Fresno, California

Clovis, CA (KFSN)-When children return to school this fall, state officials said they didn’t need social distance but needed masks.

The rule has been criticized by some parents, including Clovis, whose rally was held Wednesday night.

Parents want masks to be an option for their children in the next school year.

The organizers of this rally say that the choice should be left to parents and children, regardless of whether the mask is worn at school.

We talked to parents who were opposed to letting the state make a decision about face covering.

Others say that their main concern about masks is the distraction it brings to their children in the classroom.

“Their attention is already short enough,” says Katie Salika. “You put something on their face, it’s like giving a fidget spinner to each of them. They won’t be able to focus on what they’re doing, and that’s my concern. is.”

There was some confusion after the recent guidance was announced.

This week, the American Academy of Pediatrics released guidance recommending that students over the age of two and all staff, whether or not they are vaccinated against COVID-19, wear masks.

Currently, the guidance differs from what the CDC published two weeks ago and recommends that unvaccinated students and staff wear masks indoors.

Both institutions agree that masks are the best way to protect unvaccinated students.
