Lexington, Kentucky (LEX 18) — South Lexington’s 12u and 10u All-Star team will represent Kentucky in this week’s Cal Ripken World Series.
Both teams were celebrated by the community on Monday night at Peelfield in Sirito Park.
The 12u All-Star aims to be the fourth 12u team in South Lexington’s history to win the Cal Ripken World Series title. Its last title was 2007.
“This is really bad,” said 12u’s All-Star Jordan Head. “Just make sure there were three 12-year-old teams to win this tournament in this South Lexington, and if you play and pull out to win, winning is much more special to us.”
12u will also play for one of his teammates, Landon Robertson. Landon Robertson hurt his leg earlier this season trying to catch a fly ball in the outfield.
“We are playing for him. He is a big part of our team. He is an important part lost. But we are together for him I’m going to play, “He said.
The 10u All-Star is striving to accomplish something never before and has won its own Cal Ripken World Series.
“We’re very excited and will probably have a party,” said 10u’s All-Star Bryce Blackerby. “We thank the coach for celebrating and thanking this team for helping us get where we are going.”
10u competes at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. August 6-13, 12u will be held in Branson, Missouri, August 5-14.
“The community has come out to support us and these people who have done a lot of work over the years,” said Jason Binder, a 12u baseball coach. “We are really proud of all the work they have done and look forward to where we can go from here.”
“It’s a great experience,” said 10u baseball coach Brandon Jones. “These kids have been together for a long time. Most of them have been together since the age of five and along the way we put some new kids in the mix, which is a great opportunity.”
