The Supreme Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention has elected a new leader.

All three winning executive committee members supported a more transparent investigation into allegations that the sect mishandled reports of sexual abuse. They defeated the candidates who opposed the move. Last year, the Commission was involved in a heated debate on this issue. Members disagreed on whether to allow outside investigators to access notes between lawyers and committee staff.

Eventually, the Executive Committee resolved to waive its attorney / client privileges. The recent elections preceded a large national rally of the SBC, where thousands of Southern Baptist Conventions are expected to elect a new president and consider reforming sexual abuse.
