According to Flightaware, the airline canceled 348 flights on Monday and postponed another 271 flights.
Dallas-based airlines have blamed air traffic control issues and weather for “operational challenges” on weekends with more than 1,000 canceled flights on Sunday alone. Southwest Airlines was the only airline to report problems on that scale.
Southwest Airlines suffers from many delayed and canceled flights throughout the summer. In August, it announced that it would reduce its September schedule by 27 flights (less than 1%) and 162 flights (4.5% of the schedule) from early October to November 5.
Last week, Southwest Airlines became the latest airline to announce that it imposes vaccine obligations on its staff. The Dallas-based company said workers would need to be fully vaccinated by December 8 to stay on the airline. Employees may seek approval to skip shots for medical or religious reasons.
One analyst said a possible reason for the weekend outage might be a slowdown in work by pilots who oppose the mission. The pilot union denied that it was part of the job.
In pre-market transactions, Southwest Airlines shares fell 2.6%.
