Lake County, Ohio (WJW) – The long road to space is finished with a short rocket ride.
Dr. Cyan Proctor is a SpaceX Inspiration 4 pilot. This is the first space flight The first space flight to raise money for civilian crew and charity.
They are not astronauts in the traditional sense. Sian is a teenager Lake county I graduated from Fairport High School in 1988.
Her family is delighted that she is living her dreams.
“Everyone was screaming last night because we could see it live. In my understanding, it was the release of a textbook. It’s great,” Robin Celent said.
Celent is Dr. Proctor’s sister and a biology teacher at the Riverside Local School in Painesville. She told FOX8 via ZOOM that her sister always loves science and space. Two things Robin says are from his father.
Their father was part of a very important team in Guam that Apollo 11 tracked when it returned to Earth.
In fact, Robin says Cyan brought something special to remember their dad.
“The astronaut traveled to Guam to thank the people at the tracking station, and my dad was one of the few who got the Neil Armstrong sign, and there were only two.” Said Robin. It went up into space with my sister. “
The resilience capsule that the astronaut rides features the largest window into space, and the large window offers a large view.
Cyan was trying to dive into space for the rest of his life and missed joining NASA’s astronauts 12 years ago. This is the view she has been waiting for for the rest of her life.
“I think it will be a big moment when we first unveil the cupola. From that perspective, we are all excited about it,” Cyan told reporters in a pre-launch interview.
The mission is privately funded and part of the goal is to raise $ 200 million for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Robin says the mission crew also wants to serve as an inspiration to others that space travel is space travel for everyone.
“The future of space travel and what that means for women, especially the minority women, and my sister goes to space and is the only fourth African-American woman to be a rocket pilot. It’s coming out, “she said.
Poet and artist Sian was able to take part in this flight after being selected from hundreds of video entries in the public competition.
The crew will return with resilience capsules this weekend.
