Spartanburg, South Carolina (WSPA) – Greenville County leaders are discussing repayment of road maintenance fees to taxpayers because they have been determined to be unconstitutional. The Spartanberg County Council will vote to vote for similar rates on the same Monday.
Road maintenance costs are now $ 15 compared to the previous $ 25.
$ 10 was found unconstitutional by the SC Supreme Court. Upstate lawyers said the $ 15 you were still paying was applied and exempted in the late 90’s. The $ 10 tax increase was said to be unconstitutional because it was made a few years ago and was disguised as a fee.
“In the light of the Supreme Court’s ruling, it was a very simple decision for our council to abolish it,” said Manning Lynch, chairman of Spartanberg County.
Some drivers say they don’t care about tolls if the roads improve. The final reading of the ordinance to remove charges will take place in Spartanberg tonight.
