Columbia, TN (WSMV)-Summer camps for young people are fun. It’s very easy.
But for certain groups, they take a completely different perspective of helping them in so many valuable ways.
Oliver Mooney is not afraid to talk about his burns.
“It put me on my shoulders here and here,” Mooney explained where he was burned.
Mooney was burned from butane fuel on a campfire.
“I think we did something wrong with it. It exploded and ignited, and so did my cousin,” Mooney said.
Today he is on a water and fun obstacle course at a burn camp in Vanderbild, Colombia.
No one here looks at you in a funny way.
“It’s great that everyone here knows what it’s like to be burned,” Mooney said.
I know 9-year-old Cali Puckett, but that doesn’t stop her quest for fun.
She was taken to the hospital in a go-kart accident.
“I touched the black string, and it ran on my feet. It was so badly burned,” Packet said.
The Chattanooga and Brentwood fire departments have come to help with the splash. The kids did everything else.
“I like the trampling of streams, and then the ziplines,” Mooney said.
I liked the words of the day.
“I think it’s an understatement. I’ve heard many times how much they’re talking about it and I’m ready for next year,” said camp director Britni Davis. “They make it more special to us.”
