Spring Hill, Tennessee (WTVF) — After a teenager in central Tennessee was bitten by a shark, going to the emergency room ended a fun day at sea.
The family was on vacation in North Carolina last month when he was bitten. Arick Nekrasov says it was good to be able to escape.
“Basically, we were frozen by the waves and we felt weird, like needles, sinking,” said Arick. “So I dragged my foot and started running, calling on my family to get out of the water.”
They were at Lightsville Beach, and thankfully they could quickly find help.
“We ran to the shore, and my mother put pressure on the wound, and we got a lifeguard,” said Arick.
His mother says he is grateful that the bite wasn’t too bad.
“He got 15 needles, but nevertheless we always bit his leg into the calf. We are definitely very grateful that it wasn’t bad,” Rachel said. Nekrasov said.
With stitches coming out this week, Arik’s recovery time is about two weeks.
The probability of being bitten by a shark in the United States is about 1 in 4 million. So Arick says he can’t wait to get back into the water.
“That is, it’s not uncommon, so it’s very unlikely that it will happen again.”
The family says the doctor told them that he believed that Arick was bitten by a shark that was three to four feet long.
