ST. Charles, Missouri (KMOV.com)-The St. Charles couple, who died of the coronavirus just days away, spent the entire 2020 in quarantine at home, the family said.
Raymond and Diana Bolas have been married for 44 years, leaving behind four children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“My mother isolated herself in the bedroom. She didn’t even go out of the house. It was almost completely isolated to my mother,” Pete Bolas said. “It was sometimes they had to leave, except for chemotherapy treatments and so on.”
Borus said his family, like many others, decided to quit holidays, gatherings and birthdays. The family does not know where the couple was infected with the virus. According to his son, both Raymond and Diana were positive in mid-January. A few days later, Raymond was admitted to the BJC St. Peter’s ICU and was ventilated. He never went home.
Borus said his mother was admitted to the hospital at about the same time and spent several days in the ICU. But he said she started to improve and was sent home. A few days later, she returned and was placed on a ventilator because her condition worsened.
“My mom was actually pretty good, then she got worse, died first, and three days later my dad died,” Borus said.
Raymond Bolas died on February 16th at COVID-19. His 44-year-old wife, Diana, died on February 13.
“The only thing that comforts me in all this is that he didn’t need to know that his wife died and that my mother didn’t need to know that my father died. I think.
He said the family experienced a wide range of emotions, from anger to sadness and frustration.
“They did everything right and still got sick,” he said. “I know my parents would have been vaccinated with a heartbeat if they could have been vaccinated at that time.”
Borus is currently recommending that others be vaccinated when the opportunity arises.
“This is the only way we can get out of it,” he said. “You think it can’t happen to you, but it can. It still seems surreal. We’re burying them on Saturday, and we feel like we shouldn’t. I don’t know … it’s one thing to experience the death of one parent, how do you handle them? “
