As the Oklahoma Tulsa-Delta mutant becomes dominant nationwide, there is an influx of COVID-19 patients at Tulsa Hospital.
Health leaders now call this an unvaccinated pandemic.
Dr. Mark Frost, Chief Medical Officer of the St. Francis Health System, said:
Dr. Frost said the overwhelming majority of hospitalizations in St. Francis were unvaccinated patients. Dr. Frost said that their hospital currently sees more than 100 COVID-19 cases daily.
He said that as of today, 12 patients are on COVID-19 ventilator. He said the spikes spread rapidly and are due to a highly contagious delta variant.
“Another warning to everyone is that this year last year, because Delta variants are very noticeable if you are in public, unmasked and unvaccinated in our community. It’s much more likely to get infected than it is, which is much more contagious, “Dr. Frost said.
“This is a big concern for us working in health care. People aren’t taking this opportunity to get vaccinated or essentially save their lives or others.” He said.
Dr. Frost said the increase in cases is straining the national health system as beds fill up quickly.
He said that every day they had to look carefully at the situation in their beds.
“Today we were at full capacity at the beginning of the day, so every day we put the patient in the emergency room and start doing so because all the beds are full. As the day goes on, the patient You can get them discharged. Dr. Frost said, “They went home. By late at night, most patients were in bed, but the backlog of patients waiting in bed in the emergency room overnight It will be. “
Today, the Tulsa Department of Health issued a statement urging all unvaccinated people to be vaccinated. They also required high-risk individuals to continue to wear face masks indoors and follow social distance guidelines, regardless of vaccination status.
“I am very pleased to hear that the Tulsa Health Department is making that recommendation. Due to the prevalence of this disease in our community, we resume wearing masks when you are in public. It is highly recommended to do so, “Dr. Frost said.
