This video, posted by Dr. Kenneth Remy, has been viewed over 55,000 times.
Dr. Remy, an adult and pediatric emergency physician, has treated more than 1,000 COVID-19 patients at BJC Hospital since March.
The age range is 5 to 98 years. Last week he said he called 11 families and told them that their beloved family was unsuccessful.
“If you can imagine picking up the phone at midnight, greeting someone you’ve never met, letting you know that your loved one has died, pausing and crying, or screaming on the other side of the phone. Has been defeated. ” “I’m defeated because this person may have been walking around yesterday, being a grandparent or parent, and not coming here tomorrow.”
Dr. Remy said he felt forced to record the video and post it on Twitter after telling the family of COVID-19 patients that their loved one did not do it. He spends most of his time treating patients at St. Louis children, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and the Missouri Baptist.
Those experiences are why he publicly pleaded with the community to wear social distance and masks.
“At this time, the only way to keep people safe and not have to look into their eyes when inserting a breathing tube to help people live and prevent them from dying is, frankly, when they get sick. I don’t want to be. That’s what inspired me to make a video, “he said.
