ST. Louis (AP) — St. Louis police are investigating an attack that injured two guards at the City Justice Center — more than 100 prisoners uprised earlier this month in the same prison.

City leaders in St. Louis have approved $ 1.5 million to fix a flawed locking system that allowed a group of prisoners to escape from their cells and riot at a city justice center in downtown St. Louis.

St. Louis Post Dispatch Report that the attack happened on Friday. According to police summaries, the 23-year-old prisoner began beating and kicking after claiming that the 56-year-old female lieutenant did not receive “timely” food.

Two other prisoners allegedly beat another guard trying to close the cell door after joining the attack. The second guard is a 30-year-old man.

Police say the guards were suffering from bruising and swelling on the face. It was not clear if either was hospitalized.

So far, no charges have been filed.

Firefighters and police were called to the St. Louis City Justice Center after the prisoners were seen setting fire from inside the building.

The attack on Friday was almost two weeks after about 115 prisoners commanded the fourth floor, set fire, and broke windows. The prisoner also beat the guards.

The riots prompted the establishment of a prison task force to assess the condition of prisons.
