Kansas City, Missouri — The St. Lukes Health System states that emergency contraceptives are not offered in Missouri-based locations.
The move corresponds to the Roe v. Wade case limiting abortion and the Supreme Court’s ruling to overturn the Missouri Trigger Act.
In a statement, a St. Luke’s spokesperson said one of the main reasons for the change was that Missouri’s trigger law was ambiguous and could interpret emergency contraception as a crime. ..
St. Luke’s also said that he does not offer emergency contraceptives because they can be safely and legally delivered at the Kansas-based St. Luke’s facility.
The health system continues to monitor the situation and states that it will follow this sequence of actions until Missouri law becomes “more explicit.”
