Boston (WHDH)-State representatives are expected to vote on assisted reproductive technology bills to protect abortion patients and practitioners Wednesday after the Supreme Court overturns the Roe v. Wade case.

The bill to protect healthcare providers and patients from out-of-state legal action is similar to Governor Baker’s presidential order. Baker orders are only for areas controlled by Baker.

“In fact, Massachusetts takes this issue seriously, so there may be a great opportunity to encourage some employers to come here or expand their footsteps here.” Said Baker.

Lawmakers are also trying to ease contraceptive concerns after many retailers and pharmacies have reported a recent surge in Plan B sales after the ruling.

Dr. Catherine White, MD, Physician and Professor of Boston University School of Medicine, said:

Due to this recent surge, some retailers have limited emergency contraception to three per customer. “This action by these pharmacies to limit Plan B and other emergency contraception is a sign to me that people are really panicking.”

State legislators are also working to increase funding for access to assisted reproductive technology, which may result in increased funding for emergency contraceptives.
