Chilton, Wisconsin (AP) — A former sturgeon biologist in Wisconsin has resigned and was fined for lying to an investigator investigating the illegal processing of sturgeon eggs into caviar.
Ryan Koenigs had previously not objected to resisting Calumet County Conservation Observers. He was fined $ 500 in court Thursday, WLUK-TV reported.
According to lawyers, Mr. Königs resigned from the Natural Resources Department Thursday morning.
Criminal accusations allege that König’s remarks in last year’s interview did not match phone records and other DNR documents.
As a result of the investigation, Koenig and other DNR employees allegedly collected eggs from spearmen and reported that they were for research purposes.
According to criminal accusations, Königs allowed his colleagues to pick up and process eggs and shared some of the caviar with DNR employees. Koenigs has been accused of receiving about $ 20,000 worth of caviar through bartering, which is illegal.
Königs was convicted last month in Winnebago County for resisting a guardian. In that case, he was fined $ 50.
