Nashville, Tennessee (WSMV) – On Tuesday, a controversial statue was removed from the perch alongside Crieve Hall’s I-65.
For over 20 years, Bill Doris kept a statue of South Army General Nathan Bedford Forrest on his private land, along with a flag representing the state of the South Army.
After that, Doris died. This statue has been the subject of ongoing debate in recent years, following the removal or relocation of many historic buildings throughout the country.
In July, General Forest’s bust was one of three removed from the Tennessee State Capitol, further controversial about the future of the Doris statue off I-65.

The statue was erected in the late 1990s with a flag. Doris states that he intentionally placed a statue on the floor plan of the Interstate Highway to remind Tennessee residents and visitors to the state of the region’s history.
The statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest along Interstate 65 in Nashville was destroyed with pink paint.
Activists have destroyed the monument for years, leaving the word “monster” on the side of the forest horse in recent attempts.
In September, Middle Tennessee State University unanimously voted in favor of removing Nathan Bedford Forrest’s name from the Army ROTC Building with state permission.
