Stockton (CBS13) – Stockton’s teenager is realizing his basketball dream while paying it in advance to help others get on the court.

It all started with his desire for new basketball shoes for the next season.

“I wanted Killy,” he said.

But his dad Raymond had other plans.

“I teach my kids that nothing is given to you. You have to work for everything,” Raymond said.

And work, he did. Elias is on a mission to raise money, calling on social media to draw addresses on people’s sidewalks and provide additional cash.

In two weeks he not only bought his shoes, but also raised enough money to help children in need of lace-up.

“I wanted other kids to feel that way,” Elias said. “They can use the shoes given to them, and they are not going to use them only once, they will be overwhelmed.”

“When I grow up, I know what it means to not have it, so I teach you to be humble, thank you for everything you have, and always give back,” Raymond said.

Elias is moving from house to house, and each new paint brings a new lesson.

“Work ethic is everything in the real world, do you know what I mean?” Raymond said. “You can either go out and get it, or sit by the sidelines and watch others get it.”

The shoe fundraising activity is now raising more money.

“I wanted to donate money for support, not just shoes,” Elias said.

“Not all kids have a lot of things, so we just thought we should help them,” Elias said.
