A major earthquake struck near Acapulco, a Pacific resort city in southern Mexico, shaking buildings in Mexico City, nearly 200 miles away.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the preliminary magnitude of the quake on Tuesday night was 7.0, centered around 8 km (about 5 miles) east-southeast of Pueblo Madero in Guerrero.
It is about 48 km (30 miles) inland from Acapulco.
There are no immediate reports from the seismic zone.
In Mexico City, the ground shook for nearly a minute in some parts of the capital, but less noticeable in others.
Some people temporarily evacuated their buildings, but most soon returned inside on a rainy night.
Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum said electricity was knocked out in some areas.
