Las Vegas (KTNV) — One of the highlights of the Clark County School District Board meeting on Thursday was a speech from a Centennial High School student.
Caden McKnight says he has lost a classmate he has known since he was 11 years old.
“The morning before her death, I entered an environment full of counselors, teachers, and my friends and couldn’t afford to mourn the loss of our friends,” he said in a public comment section of the conference. It was.
“Instead, I opened my laptop,” he continued. “I wake up in an empty room and am alone every day, as it was since last March.”
“We are the kids who have survived the pandemic, are trying to pass the AP exam and are watching their friends die. We are alone.”
Caden urged the Board to act swiftly to return all students to full-time face-to-face learning. He says that the longer they are isolated, the harder it will be to recover.
