Mercer County, Kentucky (LEX 18) — A big night for high school students in Mercer County. It’s a prom night.

This is the first time the school has hosted an outdoor prom in the middle of downtown Harrodsburg.

This is the main event on the main street of Harrodsburg. Students at Mercer County High School are coming out stylishly to enjoy the first downtown prom.

“It’s pretty cool. If not, I enjoy spending time with my friends,” said senior Lee Abrams.

For most of the students we talked to, Saturday night was an opportunity to make lasting memories with friends and make some moves.

“I didn’t want to be a normal black suit. That’s not a bad thing,” said senior Zadine Dinaldo. “But I wanted to look flashy on the first and last proms.”

The main street was a bit wet, but with over 300 tickets sold, these students were able to enjoy the first downtown prom.

“Of course, it rained a bit today, so it’s a little cooler, but I’m going to go with him,” said Stacy Davis, organizer and school counselor. “The students are very excited. I am excited to be outdoors. I think it will be a great time for all of them.”

Another thing that reminds me of a student who shared her life with type 1 diabetes since she was just eight tonight, to live every moment to the fullest.

“Honestly, I live every moment,” said Junior Caitlin Layer. “I never allow it to reach me, I just live life and learn to accept me about who I am and love myself for it.”
