Albuquerque, New Mexico (KRQE) – Children are on summer vacation, Albakirk Public School We are looking at a record number of students enrolled in summer school. Throughout high school, Daniel Candelaria says he was a consistently solid student.
It was up to his third grade COVID-19 (New Coronavirus Infection) In earnest, schools are restricted to relying on distance learning. “I thought it would be pretty easy, and I started with pretty good things, and then it just fell from there,” Daniel said.
As the years went by and teens continued to learn through the screen, Daniel fell behind. “His motivation was really downhill because he couldn’t play sports, he couldn’t schedule in a timely manner, and he couldn’t get up in the morning to go to class,” said Daniel’s father Carlos.・ Candelaria said. ..
Learning at home has been hit or overlooked by many students in the district. “My daughter went to elementary school and that was a little okay,” Carlos said.
Daniel’s slip-up is stuck in a summer school before his fourth grade. “I need to take both math and American history semesters,” Daniel said.
When Daniel learned that he had failed, he hurriedly applied for the class with a counselor. Daniel got what he needed, but not all students were so lucky.
“It would have been really hard. If that meant extra work throughout his fourth grade, we would have had to consider options, and that would have been the direction. “Carlos said.
When things get back on track, Daniel’s motivation also increases. “I couldn’t play sports before, so that was another big factor,” Daniel said.
Last year it wasn’t perfect for his learning style, but he’s still learning his lessons. “If he had been studying all year long, he wouldn’t have had to do all this work in the summer,” Carlos said.
According to APS, both summer semesters are full. This is the fastest ever.
