Sunrise Christian Academy rises in national rankings, preaches selfless basketball – Wichita, Kansas

Wichita, Kansas 2021-02-22 09:20:40 –

Berea, Kansas (KSNW) – The Sunrise Christian Boys Basketball Team has become an international powerhouse.

The team is made up of multiple national talents, including the best point guard in the country.

“I don’t want to say I feel like the Lakers, but it’s good to have so many talents in the high school team,” said Jaden Akins of Michigan State University.

Buffalo has a record of 18-2 so far this season, but success does not come from scoring, but from teaching players how to play selfless basketball.

You can say, “They have a lot of guys.” They only care about themselves. But the biggest number we care about is assist. “Director Luke Barnwell said.

Christian Bass Schools teach players the same philosophy of their religion and believe in using it in court.

“Basketball and Jesus, you may not think they have something in common, but you go with a successful team and are humble and selfless,” Barnwell explained.

This season, the team played and defeated the number one team at the Montbird Academy across the country. “We can all put Wichita on the map,” Grady Dick said.

“But personally, it’s something special to come from here.”

Junior Forward joined Buffalo this year after transferring from Corrigate High School.

“I didn’t come looking for an offer,” Dick explained. “I personally came here to improve and be the best player I can.”

Coach Barnwell is very proud of the mission that his program is driving.

“It affects the teams they plan to play in college, the husbands they plan to go to their wives, and the fathers they plan to go to their children.”
