“We were able to see the footage and see these two people essentially walking around on a date,” Cuff said. “They saw it. They seemed to have gone looking for a tool, and they came back to cut a piece from where it was hanging with the tool they brought back.”

The stolen work of art was created by New Mexico artist Melanie Marie Villarial. Called “Anything Goes,” this piece is worth $ 3,500.

“For the artist, it’s a lot of her time and energy, and I don’t think it’s fair to be able to rob someone, especially those who really worked hard for it,” Cuff said.

A police report has been submitted. Cuff said he wanted the thief to be caught and the artwork returned to the artist.

“I think it was really disappointing to us. It doesn’t show our community, our mission is to uplift the community through art. So for us it really happened. I feel it is in violation. “
