Nashville, Tennessee (WTVF) —Metronashville and Bristol Motor Speedways signed an intention to refurbish the Speedway for the potential return of NASCAR in March.
People living near the trade fair have expressed concern about the renovation of the racetrack.
Hannah Kuu of “Stand Up Nashville” states that it is the organization’s mission to listen to concerns and present them to stakeholders.
“We knocked on a thousand doors, but in reality we knocked on a thousand doors three times, so we wanted to be dense in the immediate vicinity of the trade fair.”
Group volunteers visited the community door-to-door and asked people about what was happening on the truck just outside the door.
“We did more than 500 surveys, and we did just over 300 surveys from around the fairgrounds within two miles of the trade fair,” Kuh said.
Kuu says Racetrack community survey The results were passed to the fairboard last Tuesday.
More than 74% of the surveyed reported concerns about noise, infrastructure, transportation, especially community involvement. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed said they did not support current plans to expand the race track. 34% supported and 11% were uncertain.
“They felt very lacking in community opinion at this point.”
Community meetings and hearings were held on the Fairgrounds Speedway restoration plan.
NewsChannel 5 has contacted Fairgrounds Nashville about this investigation. A spokeswoman issued the following statement:
“Thanks to the“ Standup Nashville ”efforts to further engage the community in this important proposal. Fairboard has supported community involvement from the beginning of this process and will continue to encourage, participate and host public opinion. “
The statement of intent sets a deadline of 31 July for the city and Bristol Motor Speedways to reach an agreement.
