Fresno, Calif. (KFSN)-Investigation is underway on Thursday afternoon after Fresno police officers fatally shot and killed a suspect in central Fresno.

Police officers answered a 911 call about a 27-year-old man who went to a family home on Crystal Avenue near Shield and Hughes Avenue in violation of a detention order against him.

Fresno police chief Paco Valderrama said a corresponding police officer had found the suspect armed in the backyard of his house.

“Soon, police officers were able to withdraw around the house and set boundaries,” Valderrama said.

At one point, Valderrama said the suspect had been charged by a police officer, and one police officer shot him.

The man was taken to the hospital and later died. Valderrama said investigators would not disclose his name at this time.

The police chief said the 27-year-old boy had two arrest warrants and a police officer was called home on Wednesday.

Valderrama said he shot the “slightly upset” suspect but did not injure him. He is a veteran in the department.

Detectives are currently reviewing police officers’ body cameras for investigation.
