Swami Samarth Ashram is built in order to carry out the legacy of the great spiritual leader Shri Swami Samarth. The ashram carries out the same age old rituals and customs followed by the revered saint. The ashram has done a tremendous job at preserving these customs. The ambience of Swami Samarth Ashram reflects spirituality. It is a peaceful place. This place has the power to heal oneself from extreme mental turmoil. About the learned guru, Swami Samarth

Swami Samarth is addressed as ‘baba’. He was a 19th century saint. Samartha means who is capable of. Swami Samarth was indeed capable of what common people called miracles. He was a man of godlike characteristics. His fathomless insight and knowledge led him to be known as a spiritual guru, tutor or mentor. One will hardly find a house in the state of Maharashtra where Swami Samarth is not worshipped. He is one of the most popular saints and is also revered to as the incarnation of Lord Dattathreya. During his lifetime, Swami Samarth had spent 22 years in the Akkalkot in Sholapur district of Maharashtra. Before this Swami had roamed the lofty moutains of the Himalayas and had also toured in parts of China. In addition to this he had also visited Puri, Banaras, Haridwar, Girnar, Kathiawad and Rameswaram. Then in the year 1878 he had attained Mahasamadhi i.e. left his mortal body. He is also known as the Maharaj of Akkalkot.

He was a guru who believed in no social barriers. For him everybody was equal. He was kind and soft-spoken. He had the ability to read one’s mind. He would bestow his blessings on everybody irrespective of their caste, social strata, colour, creed, race etc. before attaining Mahasamadhi he had asked his followers to worship Sai Baba at Shirdih. Sai Baba is considered as the latest incarnation of Lord Dattathreya.

One can find striking similarities between Sai Baba and Swami Samarth. Swami Samarth has thousands of followers and disciples who are devoted to him. He was great spiritual leader. He had helped many a people and had showed them the path of brotherhood and non-violence. Till date he Swami Samarth is considered to be doing miracles and bestowing his disciples with wisdom and blessings.

A Tourists’ Guide

Swami Samarth Ashram is situated near Trimbakeshwar Temple and Sahyadri Hills. It is open on all days of the week from 6 am to 11 am in the first half and from 4 pm to 9 pm in the second half. The nearest railway station from here is Akkalkot Road Railway Station which is at a distance of 12 km from here. The nearest airport from here is Gandhinagar Military Airport. The airport is situated at a distance of 9 km from the ashram. One can easily find public transport for easy movement from one place to another in the city. Hotels are available in the Nasik where one can rest and then set off exploring the city.

Shri Swami Samarth Ashram carries out various spiritual and humanitarian projects. This organization runs a hospital. The smooth functioning of these humanitarian activities is carried out by the devotees to Swami Samarth. They finance and manage these. In addition to this it also runs an English Medium School, a Sports Academy, Rural Medical College, Nursing College and College of Advanced Studies. Thus the farsightedness of this organization coupled with the zest to help has made it a great success. One must visit this place of spiritual importance when in Nasik.
