Swiss company Haelixa marks and traces the entire collection of yarn maker UPW

Haelixa, a Swiss DNA traceability solution, has worked with Hong Kong-based design-driven luxury and sustainable yarn manufacturer UPW to mark and track the entire range of stock service UPW yarns starting with the Fall / Winter 2022 collection. Haelixa marks the fibers of UPW’s facility in Dongguan with its own specially developed marker.

Unique markers are invisible to the naked eye and do not affect product characteristics such as quality. It is also harmless to humans and the environment and is GMO-free, vegan, GOTS, and Oekotex Standard 100 compliant. This is an important factor for UPW to ensure the highest social and environmental standards for its products, the two companies said in a joint media release.

Traceability to create supply chain transparency, prove product origin, and support sustainability claims is not just a topic relevant to brands and retailers. Manufacturers like UPW also recognize a clear competitive advantage by making their products traceable to prove their reliability and integrity to their customers. The obvious advantage of physical traceability is that information about the origin of the product, the various suppliers involved, and the relevant standards that apply is securely embedded in the product itself throughout the process along the value chain.

To validate and certify UPW products, Haelixa takes control samples from finished products. A simple DNA test provides forensic evidence that the product is claimed to be high quality UPW yarn dyed and spun in Dongguan. The principle of verification test is “key lock system”. This means that the DNA sequence must be read, making it impossible to replicate or use it illegally.

UPW Marketing and Sustainability Manager Kwan Lieu “It’s important for brands to have visibility into their supply chains. Our goal is to provide confidence and peace of mind that knitwear production is in line with brand values. That’s why we partnered with Haelixa. The entire UPW Fall / Winter 2022 collection is coated with Haelixa’s DNA markers. With this physical tracer, retailers and brands can thread from UPW’s certified factories at any point in the supply chain. This is the key to mitigating supply chain risk. UPW’s on-demand traceable knitwear yarns are also in stock and can be sampled quickly without MOQ, so retailers, Brands and independent designers will have access to them as well, because the sustainable future is transparent and inclusive. “

Haelixa Co-Founder and CTO Gediminas Mikutis “Transparency and traceability are the foundations needed to ensure sustainability claims throughout the textile value chain. We at Haelixa are very proud of our partnership with UPW. This is the environment. This is due to our efforts to procure sustainable materials to produce yarns with both extraordinary quality and true commitment to protection and sustainability throughout the complete EcoPlus collection (75 different blends). The implemented Haelixa traceability solution allows UPW customers to verify the origin and integrity of the material at any point in the value chain, which is a major step towards scaling traceability to all sustainable textiles. is.”
