Tampa, Florida — Changes are planned to help improve response times and support firefighters working at Fire Station 13 in Tampa, one of the busiest fire stations in the city and across the country.
According to fire authorities, Station 13 is the busiest in Tampa and the 54th busiest in the country. Staff responded to 11,211 service requests in 2019. This is 13% of all requests for the entire city.

City council member Luis Viera states that Fire Department 13 will receive serious support and has introduced a multi-layered movement to provide immediate relief.
“All the firefighters, and all the first responders, all the police officers are really, really working hard,” said VIERA. “But these men and women [at Station 13] I’m overworked. “
Currently, VIERA and Interim Fire Chief Barbara Trip have announced plans to first bring a new engine to the station and make other changes.
Forty-five days later, they see how those measures helped improve the efficiency of the fire department.
In the next 6-12 months, the city of Tampa aims to set up a modular fire station at the current station 11 to provide further relief.
In March, VIERA said it plans to build a new fire station around Fire Station 13 to introduce measures to improve service and response times in the area.
“What we want to do is reduce their burden and help the communities they serve every day because their burden is so heavy,” said VIERA.
According to the VIERA TV, Station 13 serves the North Tampa community, including the Bushboulevard community, Copeland Park, Forest Hills and other neighboring communities.
In addition, VIERA said that within the next few months, measures will be introduced into the city council that will work to establish new fire departments in the Channelside, New Tampa, and North Tampa areas.
