Tampa, Florida — Brian Thompson learned early in his life when he was stationed on a US Navy submarine.
Thompson may have retired, but his military values remain unchanged in his new career as an owner of Metal Supermarkets Tampa.
“The submarine is a little smaller than our store,” Thompson said.
Thompson likes to hire many veterans to treat every day like an anniversary.
Joe Wilson worked in the Marine Corps before becoming General Manager of a metal supermarket. He said there was a sense of companionship here that never forgets to be a patriot.
“Whenever there is a group that supports you 100%, it’s very easy to get back to the mix of things,” Wilson said.
Metal Supermarkets also connects with the younger generation and provides teaching materials and education to Tampa Bay technical high schools.
“Some high school students pursue a welding career and get more education. In the short term, they make six-digit annual revenue,” says Thompson.
Thompson said the country needs welders and carpenters and hopes that at least many high school graduates will try it this summer.
“My advice to all young people is to at least occasionally put in a video game controller and learn to make something out of metal or wood so that you always have something you can count on.” Says Thompson.
