In her home country, all you need to say is her name-Tarcilla-for people to recognize a woman known as “Picasso of Brazil”. However, Tarsila do Amaral (1886-1973) is little known in North America, despite her revolutionary art. Faith Sally will visit Tarsila’s “Cannibalistic” painting exhibition (currently on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City). This painting incorporates the metaphor of Western art and turns it into a very Brazilian one.
