Temporary fire restrictions to be set inside Sierra National Forest – Fresno, California

Fresno, California 2021-06-24 00:42:58 –

Fresno, CA (KFSN)-Temporary fire regulations will come into effect on Thursday in the Sierra National Forest.

Officials there say they are working to prevent artificial wildfires.

Restrictions prohibit campfires, welding and smoking on all forest-controlled public lands in undeveloped campgrounds.

Campfires are only permitted in developed campgrounds or picnic areas, and in specially designated wilderness areas.

Not only fireworks, but also firewood and charcoal fires are prohibited.

There is a complete list of restrictions under the restrictions on our website.

National forest officials say the forest has experienced significant tree death and that in dry conditions any kind of spark can ignite the flame.

The limit is valid from Thursday to November 15th.

The following restrictions apply:

  • Campfires are not allowed in undeveloped campgrounds (distributed areas). See Attachment A for Orders for wilderness locations.
  • Firewood and charcoal fires (including wood stoves) are prohibited.
  • Those who have a valid California campfire permit are not exempt from the ban. However, portable stoves with shut-off valves that use pressurized gas, liquid fuel, or propane are permitted with a valid California campfire permit. This includes the popular propane campfire ring.
  • Campfires are permitted at the developed recreation site identified in Attachment B of the Forest Order (Stage 2 Restrictions).
  • Stoves are allowed in all other designated picnic areas.
  • Smoking is not permitted except in enclosed vehicles, smoking-permitted buildings, campsites or picnic areas where firewood or charcoal fires are permitted, or designated smoking areas.
  • No vehicle is off a properly designated Forest Office road or sidewalk.
  • Do not weld or manipulate acetylene or other torches over open flames.
