Texarkana, Texas (KTAL / KMSS) – Texarkana, Texas elections begin early voting within a week. The long-time mayor is now facing new challenges for the first time in almost 10 years.

For the past nine years, Bob Bruchmann has been the mayor of Texarkana. With 16 years of experience in the city government, he is asking voters to re-election him.

“It was a very rewarding experience for me. It’s my way of giving back to the community. I’m a lifetime resident of Texarkana,” says Bruggeman.

But his opponent, Brian Matthews, says it’s time for change.

“I wanted to help improve the community. I want to use my business background to develop city solutions, and I just wanted to come back,” Matthews said. I did.

Matthews is a professor of business administration at Texas A & M University Texarkana. He was a city council member from 2012 to 2017. He launched the mayor’s campaign in July. If elected, Matthews states that he will focus on four areas.

“City-community partnerships, community revitalization and outreach, economic development and youth development, and open and responsible leadership,” said Matthews.

Several projects are underway at Texarkana, including a new airport terminal, Hotel Grimm, expansion of Interstate Highway 30, and downtown revitalization. Bruggeman says he wants to see it until the project is complete.

“I have background information related to it, so I think it’s important to use that knowledge and my expertise as mayor to continue these projects until the projects are complete,” Bruggeman said. Mr. says.

Early voting begins It ends on October 18th and ends on October 29th. The election day is November 2nd.
